March Elm Road

This is the proposed southern terminus of the Bramley Line, which will be built next to Elm Road level crossing. This will allow people to visit the railway by train, Elm Road only being a short walk from March mainline station.

What will be provided at Elm Road?
To start with, the platform will be constructed using a temporary structure. An example of this is at Wymondham Abbey, on the Mid Norfolk Railway. The reason for this is to keep the opening costs down. A small ticket office will also be provided. Once the railway is established, sometime in the future, it is hoped the temporary platforms and buildings will be replaced by built brick structures.

So why not run trains into the Disused platforms at March?

Simply, it would be far too expensive in the first instance to do this. The work required to allow that to happen involves rebuilding a road bridge at Newbridge Road, and completely relaying track and signalling into the station. While this is a long term goal of the trust, it will remain a long term goal until the railway is well established.

What else will there be at Elm Road?
It is hoped that Elm Road will have a small picnic area adjacent to the station. There will be no car parking at this station, as there simply isn't space to do this.

Will the trains always be going over the crossing?
No. In the first few years, very few trains will venture over the level crossing at Elm Road. It is the intention that only loco hauled trains will cross the road to run round in a loop to be provided.
